Biography & Statement
Sam Krack’s gaze slips into the insignificant details of everyday life: the unassuming photographs found in insurance claims or classified ads for second-hand objects, the domestic spaces where our trivial knick-knacks accumulate — traces of consumer society.
Against the immediacy of the endless flow of images (and commodities) characteristic of this hyper-connected world, he opposes the slowness of artistic production — oil painting, engraving, ceramic or marble sculpture — and its power of sacralization, capable of transfiguring banality into desirable objects.
The hyperrealistic reproduction of the world and its mise en abyme go hand in hand with a form of tautology that openly dialogues with conceptual art, though tinged with an irony foreign to the artists of that movement.
This humor also expresses a form of tenderness that the artist feels toward these ordinary yet absurd situations, which he presents to the viewer in order to question our relationship to the world and ultimately to assert a renewed attention to reality and its representation.
