Biography & Statement

Lara studied Fine Art at the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar in Saarbrücken, Germany, where she completed her Master’s degree in 2024. Her work has received growing recognition in recent years: in 2024 she was awarded the prestigious Prix Pierre Werner in Luxembourg. That same year, her work was acquired by the National Museum of Art and History (MNAHA), Luxembourg. In 2026, her work has entered the collection of ‘Les 2 Musées de la ville de Luxembourg’.

Lara Weiler explores the hidden life of the "everyday heroes"—those ordinary objects that silently shape our routines but are so deeply woven into our lives that they often go unnoticed. Her practice invites us to reflect on the value, use, and ultimate fate of these seemingly banal items in a world dominated by consumption and convenience. In her newest body of work, Lara Weiler turns her gaze toward the personal and the peripheral: bags opened, contents exposed, private order made visible. These intimate assemblages of bags offer a glimpse into daily life and act as unintentional self-portraits, revealing the layered identities, habits, and narratives of their carriers.

Her works neither glorify consumption nor tidy the mess. Instead, they lean into the honest materiality of lived experience. The bag is no longer a lifestyle accessory but it is a container of the everyday, and therefore, of the self. In this way, Lara asks us to pause and consider: What do our possessions say about us, especially when we’re not trying to say anything at all?
