HUBERT WURTH | Mockba 1989-1992

05 March 2020 - 18 April 2020

Between January 1989 and December 1991 Hubert Wurth was Luxembourg's last ambassador to the Soviet Union. It was the era of the opening, during which the works of the great masters of the Russian avant-garde of the early 20th century finally appeared in the Moscow exhibitions, which totally changed the world of art. Suffocated by Stalin, this art has rarely been shown. Hubert Wurth was delighted with this discovery under those new conditions, and his own artistic work of those three years reflects a special atmosphere. Having been an artist then and being an artist still today, he is showing a selection of his creations made in Moscow some thirty years ago, for the first time.

Hubert Wurth is an abstract painter born in 1952 in Luxembourg. He lives and works in Luxembourg. In the course of his life he has lived in Luxembourg, Aix en Provence and Paris (FR), Moscow (USSR), The Hague (NL), New York (USA), London (UK) and Vienna (AU) which has had a considerable effect on his painting. He was a co-founder of the "Edward Steichen Award" in Luxembourg, and was a Member of the Board of Directors of MUDAM (Musée d'Art Moderne Luxembourg) until 2019. Hubert Wurth has had exhibitions in Paris, London, Salzburg, New York, The Hague, Moscow, and Helsinki among others.
