ELEMENTARY
MARTIN PAASKESEN, RICARDO PASSAPORTE

19 June until 13 September 2025

The duo show ‘Elementary’ brings together the work of Portuguese artist Ricardo Passaporte and Danish artist Martin Paaskesen, both born in 1987.

Martin Paaskesen (1987, DK) draws inspiration from his childhood memories of Jutland and revisits symbols of his identity with a radical yet playful visual language. His canvases are marked by a distinctive patch technique, bold color palettes, and recurring motifs. Since developing this technique, Paaskesen has embraced a more minimal aesthetic, allowing the raw canvas to play an active role in the final composition. The interaction between painted and unpainted space is central to his recent work, where absence becomes as meaningful as presence.
Paaskesen’s work has recently been shown at Gärna Art Gallery, Madrid; Galeria Fran Reus, Seoul; Mott Projects, New York; Escat Gallery, Barcelona; Galleri Montergade, Copenhagen; and Valerius Gallery, Luxembourg, among others.

Ricardo Passaporte (1987, PT) uses imagery from mass media and advertising as a source of inspiration, exploring the symbolic role of found images. Referencing Outsider Art and engaging with the repetitiveness and impulsivity of graffiti, he draws attention to the hand-drawn nature of his creations. Passaporte’s work raises questions about the very nature of making art and the dichotomy between the mass-produced and the uniquely singular art object.
His work has recently been exhibited by Duarte Sequeira Gallery (Braga, Seoul, London); General Expenses, Mexico City; Ruttkowski68 (Paris, Cologne, New York); Steve Turner, Los Angeles; the Michael Horbach Foundation, Cologne; Vestjyllands Kunstpavillon, Videbæk; Huset for Kunst og Design, Holstebro; Eduardo Secci, Florence; Annarumma, Naples; and Museu do Côa, Vila Nova de Foz Côa, among others.
